For example, when a startup is under the gun for financing, it is crucial that your law firm act quickly and obtain the necessary approvals and signatures. When I speak with entrepreneurs, I caution them that it is very important to make wise decisions about their companies from the very beginning. The last thing that you want to worry about is whether your legal bases are properly covered. Do your due diligence and spend the time and money to make sure that you get the legal issues handled up front. My first experience was as a Series B investor in a local technology company that uses CCG as its corporate counsel. When I talked with the CEO, he indicated that CCG was efficient and I did find their work to be efficient and quick (i.e., not an inordinate amount of time spent on legal matters). In my view, it was a perfect setup for a startup company – everything covered, prepared for growth and prepared for potential M&A activity in the future. With the other company, I also am an investor and serve as the Chairman of the Board. Based on my experience with the first company, I brought in CCG to clean up a lot of the past corporate work of prior counsel.
